Map of Romania with major cities
Serbia is a landlocked country in Southeast Europe, strategically located at the crossroads of Central and Southeastern Europe, with GDP of approximately EUR 89 billion in 2025. Serbia has been an EU candidate country since 2012, and Belgrade will host the specialized Expo 2027.

A distinctive feature of Serbia is its network of free trade agreements, which provides preferential market access to the European Union, CEFTA countries, the Eurasian Economic Union, Turkey, the United Kingdom and, since 2024, China. Key sectors of the Serbian economy include automotive, machinery and equipment, food processing, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, mining, and information and communication technology.

Serbia has become an increasingly important destination for foreign investment in the region, with manufacturing, mining, automotive and ICT among the key investment sectors. Major investors include Stellantis, which manufactures vehicles in the country, and a growing number of Asian companies, such as Zijin Mining, Linglong Tire, HBIS and Minth from China, and Toyo Tire and Nidec from Japan. Companies from Germany, Italy, Austria and France are also among the leading investors. Manufacturing investment is concentrated mainly in Belgrade, Vojvodina in the north and Šumadija in central Serbia, while mining is centered in the east of the country.
