Map of Serbia with major cities

Romania is located at the crossroads of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, bordering Bulgaria, Hungary, Moldova, Serbia and Ukraine, with access to the Black Sea through the port of Constanța. With GDP of approximately EUR 380 billion in 2025, Romania is one of the larger economies in Central and Eastern Europe and offers one of the region's largest domestic markets.

Automotive manufacturing is one of the pillars of Romanian industry. Dacia (Renault Group) and Ford Otosan together produced around 545,000 cars in 2025, supported by a broad base of international component suppliers. Vehicle production is centered in the south of the country, with component suppliers also clustered in western and central Romania. Other key industries include machinery and equipment, electrical and electronic products, chemicals and plastics, pharmaceuticals and food processing.

Foreign direct investment has played an important role in Romania's economic development, with manufacturing among the main recipients. The country has also developed a strong information and communication technology sector, with IT and engineering hubs in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iași and Timișoara. Its domestic market, access to the EU single market and competitive cost base make Romania an increasingly relevant location for production and services in Southeastern Europe.
